Altrusa of Meredith, NH - Leading to a Better Community

Toys for Tots Drive
Toys for Tots started in 1941 to collect new and used toys for children.  The Marine Reserve Unit is the official group that sponsors the program.  It is now an international group.  For the last several years, the Marines have collected only new toys.  The Lakes Regions Marines collected 2500 toys last year.  The Toys for Tots logo was created by Walt Disney.  Bob Patenaude, the commander of the Lake Region unit, was our special guest at Altrusa's Thanks for Giving dinner.

Festival of the Trees Preview Party
This year's Preview Party of the Festival of the Trees will be held on November 30th from 5:30-8 PM.  While held in the beautiful barn at Waukewan Golf Course, the night will consist of a silent auction, raffle baskets, and a variety of hearty hors d'oeuvres created by local businesses.  Pictures from left to right are Kelly Joyce and Lauren Yang of Lakehouse Boutique Catereres, Roger Rist of George's Diner, Julie Guerre Bourgeois of Giuseppe's Pizzeria, and Jeff Mills of Moulton's Farm.

100 Hour Challenge                                                Ann Rash, our District Governor, presented our president, Laurie Brothers, with a certificate for our club's participation in the 100 Hours of service for Altrusa's 100 birthday.  More than half of our members volunteered at least 100 hours outside of Altrusa initiatives.  Patti Williams (left) and Helen Robinson (right) were two of those recipients.

October Dinner Guests
At our October dinner meeting, Carol Gerken presented District Governor, Ann Rash (center), and Governor Elect, Linda Ring (left), with a 2018 calendar commemorating Meredith 250th anniversary.

Farm to Table Program

Each Tuesday in the summer members of Meredith Altrusa meet at Moulton's Farm.  John Moulton is most generous in providing produce to us which the club, in turn, boxes up and delivers to area food pantries, the Moultonborough Lions Club, Salvation Army, Carey House, and Calvery Baptist Church in Meredith.  Pictured to the right is Altrusa member Lisa Davis delivering the produce to Sharon Haire and Pastor Roger Brown at Calvery Baptist Church.

Bobby Barrels
Each week during the summer an Altrusan waters and deadheads the planters at Lake Waukewan.  The plants can be seen by the boat launch and are in honor of past Sister Bobby Smyth.

Zienzele Foundation
Altrusa has developed a partnership with the Zienzele Foundation which
aids children in Zimbabwe who have lost parents through HIV. The
Foundation works with the Zimbabwe women who create baskets to be sold
in the United States.  Altrusa has sold many baskets on several occasions to
promote this endeavor.  All monies are sent directly back to Zimbabwe to
cover the school costs for the orphaned children.
